A Princess needs a nice smile and fresh breath

Just found this cool toothbrush/toothpaste that solves the problem of brushing on the run. The toothpaste is in the cap and with an easy twist is applied to the brush for a quick brush, and fresher breath. LOVE IT! The OHSO pocket toothbrush is priced around $20. AND of course it slips right into your travel backpack purse so its ready when you need it. Now here is the best news… It’s refillable with your favorite toothpaste. That’s really important to a fussy princess. This is a true find!! Can’t figure out which color I want.

Try a Checklist
14. June 2009
admin
I’m getting rusty at packing. My reduced travel schedule has caused me to change my “auto pilot” activities to get ready for a trip. That means that I ususally forget essentials or don’t have those “little” things that make a difference when you are away from home. This time I’m goin
g to take a lesson from my daughter, the Organized Princess. I’m going to make a checklist of the items do remember to pack and keep it on my computer so it can constantly be updated. That way I will save sleepless nights thinking about what to pack. I will also have a section of this file on what to pack in my travel backpack purse. Soon they will call me the Efficient Princess. I’m also going to work toward only carrying TSA approved bottles of my cosmetics. That way I’ll have the option to carry-on if I’m in a pinch. A couple of items I know for sure will be on my packing list are :Zip lock bags of all sizes, suntan cream, a hat, and band aids, lots of them in all sizes. Once my list is done I’ll post it for your review. My next trip is coming up in a couple of weeks.

No One Looks At Feet In Vegas, (If you are a boomer princess that is).
5. June 2009
admin
I have survived another trip to Vegas. I say “survived” because it is not my favorite place. Actually as a Princess most of the Las Vegas strip makes my skin crawl. I went because of Cirque Du Soleil. My nephew and I are crazy about anything Cirque Du Soleil and there is no place to see better Cirque Du Soleil shows that in Vegas. For his high school graduation my husband and I took him to see “Ka”, “Love”, and “O”. All fabulous and worth putting up with the Las Vegas strip to see them.
Of course my 18 year old nephew loved everything about the place. (See post http://travelprincess.info/?p=379 to learn why I was there with my nephew)

The shows were in the evening so all day we walked the strip. Despite the fact that I wear “sensible” sandals, my blisters started the first evening. I wore dressy sandals without stockings and we walked and walked on already tired feet. The next day my feet were all taped up but more blisters appeared. I stupidly did not bring athletic shoes because I didn’t want to look like all the other 60 plus year old women. I foolishly thought that a princess needs to look good even down to her feet. By the third day I didn’t care what I looked like. I had a pair of cotton socks that I wore with my Ecco sandals. I felt very dorky but I was convinced that no one was looking at my feet.
Why would they look at feet when everywhere you turned there were BOOBS!
Summer in Vegas is about women wearing revealing halter tops, tank tops, string tops, and bra tops (almost no tops) showing boobs of every size and shape. The sights were astonishing, laughable, disgusting, and anything thing but tasteful. When big tall boots were added to the “look” or stilleto heels, it became hard to ignor. Even at 90 plus degree weather, no princess in her right mind would be seen in such attire. Again, I repeat my revelation. No one looks at feet (of a boomer princess) in Vegas.
The one thing I already knew but confirmed after the first 2 hour outing was that there is nothing like a WisePack™ for travel. I started out with my small Quick Trip bag thinking I didn’t need to bring much–a credit card, my lipstick, and glasses. We were just going to dinner and stroll to the theatre. Well, I was wrong. I wanted a water bottle, didn’t have it. I needed a pashmina wrap, didn’t have it. Needed an Advil, but left my pills in the room to save space in my bag.
The next day I emptied my WisePack™, put all the things I needed for the day, and left the heavier unnecessary things in the room. I carried it all day on my shoulders as you are supposed to and was very happy. From then on I carried my travel backpack purse that way and had no shoulder or backache, not to mention I had all the things I wanted for our day-long outtings. There was also plenty of room for bandaids, Neosporin, cotton pads, and worse case stockings for my sad feet.
And of course, my hands were free to play the slots and lose my $20 limit. That didn’t take long.

REPEAT OF BAREFOOT PRINCESS
1. June 2009
admin
THIS WAS POSTED LAST YEAR BUT BARES REPEATING FOR SUMMER SANDLE WEARING TRAVELERS. One of my pet peeves in the summer is the fact that most people, like me, are wearing sandles or flip-flops. They do not wear stockings. When they take their shoes off to go through security they walk barefoot. Now think about it. Thousands and thousands of feet walking over the same path barefoot. YUCK! It sickens me. Germs, disease, dirt….I’ve tried to remember to slip a pair of little footies in my WisePack™ , travel backpack, to wear when I go through security. It takes an extra couple of seconds (which seems like hours) to find them and put them on, but the peace of mind is worth it. You can choose nude colored footies, but they are harder to find in a hurry. I say go for the red ones or yellow so you can grab them easier. Others will be irritated because they have to wait, they may look at you like some cleanliness nut. I just look back and give them my “I’m a Princess and don’t want to dirty my feet” look and move on. One time I asked a TSA guard if she knew if the floor ever got washed. She smiled at me with a little wink in her eye, and said, “Well, they are supposed to wash them every night.” I gave her a “Yeh, sure” look back. Now my daugher dates a TSA officer and at dinner I asked him the same question and his answer was, “No comment.” He did comment on the smelly shoes that go by his nose everyday. I had never thought of that.

Leave Your Royal Jewels At Home
29. May 2009
admin
I never take my good jewlery on a trip with me. Even if the hotel has a safe. Actually I’m afraid I’ll never remember the combination and never retrieve my jewels so I don’t bring them. I wish I could say that I have diamonds and pearls inherited from a regal dynasty, but the truth is I really don’t have that much valuable jewlery, but what I have I would hate to lose. That’s why I have 10 Swatch watches and after seeing their new styles, I’ll have 5 more. They cost around $50 and come in tons of styles from funky to fabulous. Everytime I wear a Swatch, someone notices and comments how cool they are. I love being a “cool” princess. They pass security easily and I’ve never had one stop running, except for a tired battery. I keep a couple in my travel backpack purse so I can change off when I’m bored with one or need an accessory for my outfit. I recommend starting with a basic black, with some extra special touch, then get a wild and crazy one, and a dressy one to begin your collection. Swatch has a good web site, but they also have outlets in many airports. I think this pearl one is quite lovely for a princess. What do you think?

What a Princess Does in Las Vegas Stays in Las Vegas…or so they say.
27. May 2009
admin
One might think that a princess would not find Las Vegas a place to feel royal. Most of the princesses I know would rather die than go there. “It’s sleazy,” they would say. “I feel like I need a bath when I’m there.” Well there is some truth to these statements, but I’m heading there with my husband and my 18 year old nephew. It’s his graduation present. We both love Cirque du Soleil and for years we have talked about going together on the occassion of his graduation. The time has come and we are going to see three shows (Ka, Love, and O), stay at Paris, and take in all the sights and sounds we can. His parents are a bit uneasy, but we will guard their treasured boy and make sure he has the time of his life. One consideration in traveling to Las Vegas is safety. I probably will not use my WisePack™ in the casinos even though it has the safety pocket next to my back. I will use my Quick Trip passport bag, that crosses in front and allows me to keep a close eye on my $20 (That’s all I allow myself to bet) my glasses, kleenex, my driver’s license, ummmm and I’ll probably stick in my credit card..just in case. That’s really all I need for the theatre too, as everything is paid for and we can walk everywhere. My other goal is to travel really light. I’m actually going to try to just use a carry-on. Yes, I know that my princess rules are to let others deal with luggage, but I can remember the very, very, long waits for our luggage in the Las Vegas airport. No time to waste when you are in Las Vegas. It should be interesting traveling with an 18 year old boy. We get along great and he is a terrific kid, but what we like to do and he would like to do might be very different. The good news is that we won’t be spending fortune in royal coins by going to any majestic restaurants. All he eats are pizzas, mozarella sticks, and cheeseburgers.

A Princess Should Always Have Dry Feet
25. May 2009
admin
I just learned of these wonderful rain boots that fold up and fit right in your travel backpack purse or carry-on. They are called Shuella™ also known as “your shoe umbrella.” Well, they aren’t really umbrellas, but fit right over any shoe with any heel. You buy them according to shoe size. It sure beats the plastic bags that my friend wore over her shoes in Venice when she traveled during a rainstorm.
Now some of you “older” princesses might remember them as old fashioned rain boots. Remember the black rubber, that folded over with one button, or the ones that fit tightly over your shoe. There was even one that had a hole for your heel to go through. I used to sell them when I was 16 and worked after school in Dayton’s Department store’s umbrella department.
Shuellas are way more fashionable than those old rubber boots. They come in bright colors, and of course, the all important black. Rebecca Miller, the founder of Shulla’s said, “SHUELLA came about because I was frustrated that every time it would rain or there was inclement weather, I had nothing fashionable and functional to wear that would protect my shoes. I looked everywhere and when I could not find anything suitable, I designed and created them myself.” Shuella sells for $49.95 and come in Black, Pink, Yellow, and Lime green. A princess can now look elegant, even in the rain and keep her feet dry so she won’t get a sniffle.

More Than Even A Princess Needs
17. May 2009
admin
As you know from this blog, I like to surf the net for royal treasures, trinkets, and gadgets that fit neatly in my travel backpack purse. Those I talk about always have the criteria of being lightweight, small, and contribute to the travel like a princess attitude. Today I’d like to clue you in on an amazing site called Gadgetophilia. It’s dedicated to those who have an obsession with gadgets. There are things listed on there that not even a princess knows she needs. I explored their “Top 30 Travel Gadgets” list and laughed out loud at some of the items, especially the travel pillow that you set on your tray and lean forward.
It’s HUGE! Then there was the indestructible Travel Wine glass.
Now as much as I love wine, I think this is over the top, even for a princess. The Germ eliminating tooth brush might be of interest. Along with travel gadgets they have lists of thousands of other gadgets, including “Spy gadgets” “Wearable gadgets” and more. It never ceases to amaze me as to the manyobscure places to spend your coins. I’ll pass on the Solar Powered Cooling Pith hat.
It doesn’t fit into my WisePack™.
